Techniques for oil analysis
Oil analysis overview
Wear metals - we analyse the oil for the presence of metals and elements that will indicate any problems. Within this analysis we will look at the additive package in your oil so to ensure it is up to standard.
Viscosity & physical properties - we analyse your oil for it's viscosity, we can determine if the oil has degraded, and if it is fit for continued use. We also check for water and glycol content, fuel content, and the all important soot content.
Acidity - total acid number and total base number. Is your oil oxidising, has it got enough anti acid properties to prevent acid corrosion in your engine ?
Contamination - any contamination in your oil is a bad sign, we check for the presence of the major contaminants and will feedback in the end report. We also check for metal debris, as this can be a bad sign with any engine oil.
Cleanliness - mainly for hydraulic oils, the oil is analysed in order to determine the ISO cleanliness code which is used to determine the size of any particulate matter.
Above is an overview of what we offer as a standard test suite - you can find out more about our techniques if you visit the 'Did You Know' page.
